Creative Ireland Carlow launches new Rambling House Open Call 2024 funding opportunity.

Rambling House Cottage

Carlow County Council has announced details of a new funding opportunity to support the development, promotion, and presentation of Rambling Houses in Carlow in 2024, through Creative Ireland.

Rambling Houses historically were popular in communities across Ireland. They were a place where the locals would gather to be entertained, educated, and informed and included evenings filled with music, songs, dancing, stories, and side-splitting laughs! To this day, Rambling Houses celebrate and cherish the people of County Carlow through folklore and traditional art forms. Carlow Arts services, through Creative Ireland, strives to support creative initiatives that connect people, ideas, and communities. Through this open call we aim to support the Rambling House network in Carlow to support its long-term development and growth.

Speaking about the Open Call, Creative Communities Engagement Officer, Aileen Nolan said, “Carlow County Council is delighted to announce this new funding opportunity for 2024. We now invite individuals and organisations to submit proposals for the Creative Ireland Rambling House Open Call 2024 as part of the Creative Ireland Carlow Programme. Proposals can include all, creative activities, performances, readings, workshops etc. taking place as part of a Rambling House.”

Some examples of how this fund might be used includes: development of an exchange between other groups/younger people in the community or further afield, recording/documenting an event, hosting of a particular entertainer or special event, collecting and documenting stories and lore about a unique area or individual, ensuring traditional lore, or stories and music are passed on from generation to generation. Inclusion and representation are important to us to reflect the equality, diversity, and inclusion of our County. We actively encourage these applications.

Online submissions are now open and welcome. Application forms and Information about this new opportunity are available on https://consult.carlow.ie/en/applications Closing date is Friday 19th April at 12 noon.

The Creative Ireland Programme is managed through Carlow County Council Arts Service
