Bathing Waters Quality Monitoring

Local authorities may monitor and publish information on bathing water quality during the summer bathing season.

Samples are taken every fortnight during the Bathing Season (which runs from May to September) and published on www.beaches.ie on the EPA website.

Identified Bathing Areas

There are two identified bathing areas in Carlow.

Bagenalstown: River bathing area accessed from the riverside track. The River Barrow is a navigation river with weirs and lock gates at several locations. Swimming at Bagenalstown is accessed directly from the car park/picnic area.

Clashganny: River bathing area accessed from the riverside track. The River Barrow is a navigation river with weirs and lock gates at several locations. Clashganny weir and lock provides swimming opportunities above and below the weir.
