Comhairle na nÓg are child and youth councils in the 31 local authorities of the country, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies.
In light of the fact that Comhairle na nÓg is for young people under the age of 18 and who therefore have no other voting mechanism to have their voice heard, Comhairle na nÓg is designed to enable young people to have a voice on the services, policies and issues that affect them in their local area.

Hub na nÓg is a national centre of excellence and coordination.
It supports government departments, state agencies and non-government organisations to give children and young people a voice in decision-making on issues that affect their lives, with a particular focus on the seldom-heard.
In the first national strategy on Children and Young People’s Participation in Decision Making (2015 – 2020), the DCEDIY committed to the establishment of a national hub to support the implementation of the strategy.
Carlow Comhairle na nÓg
Carlow Comhairle na nÓg are local youth councils which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies. Young people across the country are represented in each of the 31 Comhairle na nÓg across the Country.
One of the objectives of the Carlow Comhairle na nÓg is to ensure that the children and young people are given the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services policies, engage and understand the process and to ‘have a voice’.
Carlow Regional Youth Services facilitate the Carlow Comhairle na nÓg, supported by the Community Department in Carlow County Council.
